国内でもヤフー版「IE7」が公開

ヤフーは11月7日、同社ブランドの「Yahoo! JAPAN向けInternet Explorer 7」（IE7）を公開する。標準で「Yahoo!オークション」や個人ページがタブブラウザ上で立ち上がることなどが、米国版と異なる点となる。

　米Yahooは米Microsoftの戦略に基づき、10月18日の時点で米Yahoo版IE7を公開していた。

　国内で公開されたヤフー版IE7は、検索バーに「Yahoo!検索」を組み込み、最新情報などが分かる「Yahoo!ツールバー」や人気の高い10数個のサービスが「お気に入り」に導入済みなのは米国版と同じ。国内版の特徴として、特にオークションの需要が高いことから、ツールバーや起動時の既定サイトとしてこれを組み込んだ。

　米MicrosoftはIE7を複数社のブランドで展開する方針のため、国内でもヤフー版IE7の登場を皮切りに、他社ブランドのIE7が今後、登場していくものと見られる。

Why exactly is Yahoo so actively and eagerly singing the praises of IE7? I don't get it. Yahoo was the first place I saw allowing downloads of the official version in English also... Why are they more excited (no pun intended) say, than Google who also stands to benefit enormously??

Because they have substantial market share in Japan and native navigation should help to increase the size of the cake enourmously. Japan's internet is years behind the US in terms of eCommerce. The bigger the cake the bigger their slice. It is not why Yahoo is so keen that should be worrying us. It is why Microsoft are so reticent that should be our concern. They have done the development work, why are they so reluctant to give their new baby any market exposure, to the point that they won't even mention its main selling point?
