I just report the news. I don't make this stuff up.
I was under the impression that if you download the "languages" you want, the domain name will appear in unicode. That would help, but not required :-)
Yes, I think that was confirmed and tested by someone. But don't quote me on that!
Thats a Big 10-4. Rhys went to the trouble of getting that checked out at Microsoft. Shame that lad ain;t here!

I had heard rumblings that this 'unicode becomes punycode' could become an issue if too many people fall for mixed script phishing sites or the reported phishing domains becomes a problem. That's what happened to Firefox, but I will be optimistic!

If i understand correctly, phishing is one of the poor excuses for the great delay in idn's.
i dont think it will again rise as a problem with the security implimented.

Check post Rhys' posts out. Basically, the way Microsoft handles phishing has nothing to with Script, except that it will only display authorised scripts in the Address Bar. If the scripts are not authorised it will prompt you to add them. It really isn't an issue.

It's good to read your optimistic comments. I was in a discussion/negotiation today for an expensive LLL ASCII domain. The short story: The reasoning behind the price had nothing to do with earnings, but with rarity. These guys are living in denial.

Some very smart, crafty domainers will have no idea what hit them when IDNs start taking their traffic. It is almost spooky.

No more storms like the one your showing are welcome in the southern US for a good long while please!

How about a massive electrical storm photo, signifying the collective "lightbulbs" going off in ASCII land as IDNs begin to grab page rank and search engine positions.

OK, I'll pander to your sensitivities on this one. Denial, however, won't help the Romanji/Pinyin dot commers or all those guys that are advertising my Cyrillic Domains on their Typo Sites!

The lightening analogy is actually very interesting. When current passes through air the medium in which it is passing is modified by a process know as ionisation. The resistance to the current breaks down and the flow of electrons goes up exponentially.

We will find that after the release of IE 7, once the market understands the importance of IDN, the Internet Structure will be similarly modified to facilitate the flow of IDN traffic and that will then increase exponentially also.

There has been a lot of talk about how to predict traffic levels. There is the Top Down approach, which compares the Economies of the Target Markets or the Bottom up approach that tries to extrapolate existing traffic. One is like measure Voltage of Electo-Potential, the other is more akin to measuring current. Trust me the later is about as useful as going out into a Storm with an Ammeter to try to establish the likelihood that you are going to get struck by a lightening bolt.
