.us started taking registrations on or about April 18,2002
The .us Registry is reserving diffrent variations of us cities,counties,senator names,numbers and others

Default Where did it all go wrong?

They started taking OPEN registrations from that date.

Prior to that it was all resticted to subdomains build on a <yourname>.<locale>.<state>.us structure.

Which was of course unworkable because each reg had to be manually approved.

Which is why .com is king :^)
