in upper case and a through z in lower case

<digit> ::= any one of the ten digits 0 through 9

Where it went wrong was that instead of using the American developed model as a prototype World Wide Web, the rest of World let them assume that was it, just as with sports like baseball, where they have domestic competitions but they call them World Series. But they are perfectly justified because that is their World. That is were the limits of their perception exists.

In defense of the Americans, who else even tried it back then? Successfully, that is.

Even with decades of an ASCII internet, we still see other countries ignoring IDN. At least some Americans saw a profit in it and went forward....

Now we are at the dawn of IDN.

Bottom Line: If there is money to be made, we will do it. And we will try to do it first. Sometimes we may seem slow and indifferent, but America is not a bad friend in the end. I don't see all that many country codes allowing IDNs. Did any allow IDN before .COM?

No, but that is part of the problem. You just spoke about your dot Com as though it was your own ccTLD.

Exactly.

US users flooded .com because their own ccTLD was too restrictive at the time.

It's a wonder some patriotic "freedom fries" politician hasn't told people they're either in .us and for the USA or outside .us and against them.

when was .US created? was it early on in the internet's timeline? when you say .US was restrictive, you mean it was reserved for US companies only or was it too expensive an extension?

Drew you're an old dog, teach this new dog some old tricks.

I think you guys are treating it as our ccTLD. If you are going to complain about the imperialist Americans controlling dot com, then give them credit when they do something right.

We have all been taught that dot com is king. Can you blame us for going after dot coms? Few people here really even know what dot US is about.
