Default New Skin

I like the new skin much better. However, I can only see it when I am logged out. When I am logged in, I am seeing the old skin. I looked around in my profile and could not see how to change it. (I also can't find how to change anything else in my profile, for that matter.)

I am not convinced that changing the Skin is going to have a big enough impact to win people over.

The main reason we chose to get away from vBulletin was to achieve Unicode searchability. This is obviously not a big issue with most at IDNFs, as clearly neither is reliability or response time.

I the latest version of vBulletin may assuage many of our earlier reservations but we really need to have Jose support to go down the road of relaunching the forum on a different programme.

I am not convinced that we need to worry too much about content as it is the collective knowledge of the members that is the key consideration, so wiping the slate and starting again might be something we have to accept. Lets not forget we are about to lose everything at IDNFs anyway, and much of it may not be greatly missed.

I remember when I first signed up at DNlocal - I was like - wow - what does this forum run on. I, like many others, was so used to VBulletin.

However, it was very easy to adjust to SMF forums, and after a while, I had no problem at all with it. I remember as well months ago speaking to Jose about some of the mods that are used on this forum, and he was more than helpful in explaining things to me.

The biggest draw back, I think is the lack of email notification by default. You can subscribe but it seems not many do and the conversation goes cold all the time.

Hasn't anyone considered http://www.phpbb.com/?

It's free.

I've never worked in forum code before, but this is the way I'd go, if I were starting out with something new.

Simple Machines is interesting; never heard of it. But it works well, if on a few different assumptions.

Goes to show you how amazing the php/mysql thing is. There'll probably be a whole other world of this stuff in five years.
