Hi All (Asiaplay here),
Double post - was posted in that dying forum... but guess is better to post here now ![]() Ok - I am back for this IDN forum discussion... as IDNforums is dying and I do not see it as a viable option at the moment (hence why no one has seen me for a month over there... ok, know, no one missed me lol)... and I for one am sad to see no real great alternatives... even though I am not an IDN trader (groan - that domain is too commercial... reminds me of IDN Sharks and nothing to do with who opened it - just based on the domain name, so no one gets me wrong - opps ).So now is choice time... either a decent forum is formed which people will use or IDNs don't have a central core forum. Dave, I support your forum full heartedly (but agree, why should you alone fund any change to software used for it - why should you!!!). However, this aside everyone is used to VBulletin and the auction aspect of it is the heart and soul of the forum. So for any alternative forum to work (so members here will use it) - it will I guess have to be VBulletin. Ok - I have one comment... which is... a large amount of members here are more than happy to pay $100s, if not $10000s for one IDN!!! Are people prepared to donate $10 to Dave for this? (I am if others pitch in) Note: Last time I looked the Vbulletin license was only $160... so is not a lot really. Any comments? Cheers, Asiaplay PS: I would also prefer a domain name where the word "IDN" was actually used in the domain name for the forum though Dave (especially when we all promote the power of having a domain name and how that helps SERP etc.). Anyone have a good one to donate to Dave to use for an IDN forum? Dave would you consider a name change so IDN appears in the forum name? |

Hi Asiaplay, It's been a while...
Even though I'm a strong supporter of the SMF platform, I wouldn't mind to pitch in 10$ to help towards a VB license. That being said, I would only contribute if that meant that DNlocal would become the main IDN forums... otherwise there just isn't a reason why they should make the switch. Switching involves a particularily painful, if not impossible, legacy data conversion... which basicaly means that unless Jose spends countless hours on reformatting the data so it fits with VB, we will lose all previous threads, which is unacceptable IMO.
