The reason they are panicking is because they are all too dumb to follow the fundamentals in their own industry.

This policy development has been occurring over 3 years. They have all had ample opportunity to influence it. They didn't because they didn't even take the trouble to find out what was going down.

As for extensionless domains, I really don't see them catching on. At the moment most domains are advertised as www.abcd.com. This is done to make it clear to people that they are domains and not just a bit of random text. If I type abcd in this sentence is obvious to you it was a domain? So what makes more sense www.abcd or abcd.com? It is quite clear from what we have been seeing in the Far East that it is the abcd.com.

Those who panic are mainly domainers. Strange thing is that many domainers do not even realize that the main purpose of this move is just to fight domaining, nothing else.

When .net, .org, .biz, .us, .info,... are released, most, if not all, good keywords were taken by domainers. They do not want to run any business. Their big dreams are to sell their names to end users for big money, which created larger barrier for end users to go online. Except domainers, no one wants to see this. I know this because I once wanted to find a good name for a business I wanted to run, but I just could not. I then realized the value of domain names. That is why I became an IDN domainer. I also have some ascii .com names. I hate .net, .biz,... because I could have sold my .com for a decent amount of money if the end users had not have those extensions. So I know more extensions give more choices to end users. Whether they make good or bad choices is none of my business.

There is nothing wrong with domaining. Domainers are smarter than ICANN and those other organizations, who should have done this at the beginning. Now they are correcting this. As domainers, fighting against this move is just waste of time. What we can do is to adjust our strategy for the change, because opportunities come along with changes.
