Default Peer Names and the menace to Domains

It might put some of the P2P groups out of business, but it won't destroy DNS and domaining as we know it. At least, not for a while.

There will be certifications.
Your going to have to go some to convince Americans that they want to be a Sub-Domain of a Dot Net!
Me? LOL

This might be a warning. I read this as a sign that in 20 years, domains are history.
No one will own travel.com. A search for travel will resolve on "Travel Agency GoAndStayThere Lda", "Dave's Travel Blog",...

Look the same people who talk all this bollocks about phishing being due to IDN, and uncertainty of resolution with IDN, then turn around and spout all this bollocks.

If you want Microsoft to control all your thought processes, yep, this is the way to go.

No, it really is very simple. IP Addresses are fundamental. You either use those 18 digit numerical sequences or you Alias them with Domain names. There really isn't any other way around the problem.

You can change the formats of the numbers as we are doing from 12 to 18, but I ask you have long have telephone numbers been around? You may ring a name on your mobile and not make mental note of the number, but it is there. That is what gets rung. It isn't going away.

I agree they will always be there, but they will be less intrusive.

First there were numbers, them words, them came notions. Semantic web. Web 3.0.

Think about it. Google is already doing it. Google creates concepts around your searches.
Google returns diferent searches depending on where you are, what you speak...

It is hard to judge technology 20 years in the future. I agree, RD, that something like that will probably be around in 20 years. However, in 20 years, who can tell how we will access things?

I know that it wouldn't happen without a fight. If it ever starts to go down that road, I think we will have plenty of warning.

I am not worried. I think DNS is OK!

Yes, you are going to get that, but the numbers won't go away and until humans evolve the capability of instant recall of hundreds of 18 digit numbers, neither will domain names.

I think I have found a great analogy:

Have you ever tried to refer to someone you know but don't remenber the name?

You (Browser): that tall guy...
Your friend (Server): John? (Because John it's the closest friend and the taller. Of course there are millions of guys in the world taller than John, but they are not friends of you and your friend)
You: No, but with the same type of hair.
Your friend: Dave?
You: Which Dave? Yes, he's on the same school as Dave.
Your friend: Oh, Michael Stewart!
You: Yes!

So, do you need to know all names?

Welcome to WEB3.0!

Of course, in WEB4.0, you will be doing this in real time in a VR envirnment and choosing paterns and images from menus around you. Forget the keyboard.
