Peak ->

Confusing term isn't it? But if you've played stocks, you'll know that the best time to sell is not the peak - when it peaks, buyers and seller standoff.

Best time to sell is when it's the market is rising, when buyers are buying frantically, like it was March-June this year, when people were talking about the first IDN billionaire (sounds familiar??).

The increase in bidders at Snapnames seems to indicate that more people are getting into IDNs and believe in the concept. The prices for these "low quality domains that i won't take for reg fee" is still well below what people are paying for real junk. Truth is the quality and potential of the IDNs at Snap are much higher than the ASCII drops. We are nowhere near the peak IMO. The peak will come along with the traffic. But seeing as traffic should come gradually and should continue growing (from the growth of non-English internet users), I wouldn't expect that peak anytime soon.

This peak was among a very small group of people. Speculators sell on the hype. Investors look for a sound venture with long term potential.

Well, there's always the short term, medium term, and long term play.

Short term, the peak is over. Best time to punt was a few mths back. The runup to IE7 which we all thought might happen, hasn't happened yet, and we're still waiting.

I think a lot has to do with very bad sentiments on the ascii front - due to sedo's ppc woes. All this has stressed out ppl like Acro stuck with plenty of .info and .biz, and they are pushing the blame on .weird.

Long term, i think 99% of us here are confident that it will work out. The part we can't agree on is the medium term.

Absolutely great discussion guys. I think 100% of folks here believe IDN is destined to be HUGE in that long run. But personally I went into this thinking it's a 3 year investment for the good names. That's just my perspective because I'm a developer, not an arbitrageur. I've bought small pieces of land to build apartments, condos and small shopping centers on.

guess we'll have time to watch loads of those... awesome jellies BTW

Really, I think many folks are gonna dump domains as soon as we see some little POP in the market (prolly for chinese domains yes?)
But the buyers will get a great deal too, as they continue to appreciate. I don't expect to see any spike in the market AT ALL for some of the unloved scripts, like my little Vietnamese domains getting no traffic at all. But I didn't buy them waiting for a spike in the market (thankfully)

my $0.02 - good time to sell domains will be coming in the spring, but the smart people WON'T

Pool is now a minnow, compared - just look at how often they get a mention at the weekly report at dnjournal. eNom likewise.
Pool got shafted, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of people!
