Default What if ?

I keep reading about how ICANN are tip toeing around the DNS not wanting to disturb it, incase it collapses like a house of cards.

And it got me thinking, what if?

What if, they did "break" the internet?

what would be the likely impact of 1 day's no internet?

or 1 week?

would it just be an inconvenience or would planes start falling from the sky?

It would be most disruptive to those that have integrated their economies most with the online environment. The US and the UK would be completely f*cked. Most of the rest of the World would carry on much as normal.

Economy collapse

Depends on your business. We would just switch to IP addresses. No big deal. Just an extra step in the rare event that we don't already use IP addresses. Additionally, many companies have their own DNS and could compensate.

Our PPC parking would take a hit, though.

I think it will be disastrous and not only financially.

If every little local strike is costing the local market ten's of millions daily this is ten's of billions daily imo

not really related but...

"That puts the worm at No. 9 on the company's list of the most costly malicious code, behind the likes of the Code Red worm, with its average of $2.6 billion in productivity loss; the LoveLetter virus, with $8.8 billion; and the Klez virus, with $9.0 billion."
