Sales for Phishing IDNs are a Bad Trend

I know these recents sales popping up on IDNF are a result of the Sedo auction of fish.com, but we should know better. These domains are useless for anything but phishing. More than likely all the bidders on Sedo are not aware that this domain is not the "authentic" fish.com.

Why are we compounding the problem by selling worthless junk? If any of these sales pop up here they should will be immediately removed.

Yes, and if people turn up here they will also get sound advice.

However, if people buy names at Sedo or Ebay now without seeking sound advice they deserve what they get.

I agree, but people many times are not aware that they need sound advice.

If I was buying 西服.com (just an example), I would definitely seek some advice. But if I thought I was buying fish.com I might be oblivious to that fact.

Buyer beware, but sellers also need to take responsibility - not to mention Sedo, who dropped the ball big time.

While I don't condone this sale. It is the buyers responsibility to do research on the domain itself. I don't see this as any different than someone selling BRAZ1L.com Phishing domains are not new and the majority definately aren't IDN. I get phishing attempts, and get rich scams every day in my email and not a single one on an IDN.

Agreed. I hold buyer responsible for 100% of the situation, unless I advertised BRAZIL and sold BRAZ1L, then thats another story. But to think you can buy fish.com is just plain stupid... I could've swore it sold for 1.1 million a while ago...

físh.com auction on Sedo at $2250 (reserve met) with 5 hours left. Reserve? Really?

The auction listing does contain this explanation:

físh.com: IDN-Domain (International Domain Name), with logo, without content.

Please note that this domain is a simple misspelling of the English word "fish" and contains an international character/accent.

It may show up in your account or elsewhere as "xn--fsh-rma.com."

From the looks of it, the seller made an attempt to inform potential buyers. Meh, I guess sellers can only do so much.

I think you're right. It did close some time ago. Maybe the highest bidder backed out.

Could've swore it sold, was purchased, then resold in a matter of two weeks or so.
