Default Keywords in url's

an interesting experiment on keywords in url's

Full read: http://www.seo-blog.com/keywords-in-urls.php

It is well known that Google highlights the words that have been searched for in the search engine result pages (SERPs) wherever they occur. This includes the URL and has led some people to erroneously believe that Google is therefore indexing keywords in urls.

Here are some examples of keyword highlighting in the url for the search |draw poker|. The first shows Google highlighting the keywords in a hyphenated url:

So naturally hyphenated Russian terms like St Petersburg and New York in .com should get top billing? .... Right ... Right?? ....

I think they are more talking about this part of the URL:

http://cancúnhotel.com/hotels/Ambiance-Villas.html

Not the actual main domain part...

Unfortunately, none of the SEs are parsing unicode folder names properly. They show up as HTML entities which look like gibberish to the surfer.

For now it's best to use short ASCII folder names for IDN. It'll just be a royal PITA to change them all into unicode and do the redirects later on.
