Default Venting my frustraion...

So I was tooling around Namepros, and I come across this post:

So I post a response that this is a scam, phishing domain, buyer beware. I did this because I am growing increasingly tired of these scammers.

A little later, I get a PM that says this:

Unbelievable! I was mad, so I replied:

Names like this have been popping up on Sedo, and it really gives IDNs (and domaining in general) a black eye.

I am used to forums where transparency in sales is valued, and where, if someone can point out a misleading sale, it is considered as helpful.

My hope is to educate, and I really hope that scam phishing sites like this will not be allowed for sale or promotion at Namepros.

I'm sorry if I upset the staff here, but I feel strongly about this. I am happy to work with Namepros staff to clarify or provide more info about these names...

Thanks,
Jesse
And I got an even more amazing response back:

Some people buy these as domains that just look "neat" as well - From what I've seen.
It seems that there is still a lot of confusion out there - and maybe an unwillingness to learn more, which is scary when it comes to places where people are spending hard-earned money daily, like Sedo and NP...

My 2 cents...

the mods are just as smart as the namepro users - if that tells you much ;-)

Yeah, I noticed it is pretty young... I just can't believe how irresponsible the mod is to allow scams like that, because it is "neat"!

are inquiries allowed in sales threads at namepros, are they being sold in teh novelty section or as an idn, if they are being sold as an idn, then what langauge is this? Would that be an appropriate question to ask in a sales thread?

I feel your pain

Ah. The old "no negative comments in a sales thread" rule.

One of my non-favourites.

It's like preventing someone from getting a car checked out mechanically before they buy it.

Thanks tee,

The one I "got in trouble" for was in the general sales area. The same seller was promoting a different one in the IDN section, sìn.com. I asked the seller what language it was and if he could provide me an English translation. He replied that the English translation is "sin". I actually brought this point up to the mod in my defense as well, but I haven't gotten a reply...

You might want to drop a note to RJ the owner at Namepros.
He is a bit tuned in to IDNs. He might change their stance on posting
useful information for phishing domains, or at least I would hope so.

Maybe even shoot him the link to this thread.

Sounds like a good idea Bill, persuade many by persuading a few.

At least the mods should admit these need to be in IDN for sale area - they're misleading in general areas where ASCII domains are selling. That's in accordance with all usual policies of moving threads to the appropriate places.

I don't particularly see this as our problem.

There is going to be a huge argument about this as some point.

Sedo are likely to be presented in a very bad light indeed. There will consequently be a much greater understanding of IDN and Sedo will be pressured into aiming their sales towards supporting domains that serve a useful purpose.

I think we should let things run their course. If Namepros are not prepared to protect their own community, why should we get excited. We are not the ones getting ripped off. We are likely to benefit from higher exposure and subsequent better understanding of the purpose of IDN.
