Amazon.com buy their Korean .com from snapnames

Of interest (to me anyway) is that Amazon.com picked up their Korean .com (아마존.com) from snapnames a few days ago. I don't know what they paid for it.

I imagine a lot of this goes on that we don't know about. The only reason we know about this, is that all SnapNames deals are public.

If you remember I sold gap[.]com in Japanese to Gap Japan last year, although it was a stealth purchase as they used an anonymous 3rd party as a buyer (I tracked him down to a company that specialised in Trademark & brand protection/recovery)

Snap will not reveal details if you ask them not to

Amazon has been using IDN subdomains in Japanese for a while and as we know to very good effect on yahoo.co.jp. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest that they know which way is up. Unlike some they have figured out that the language of the internet is local not english.
