Both Japan and Korea are ahead of their peers in terms of broadband download speeds as well as value for money when it comes to "always-on" Internet access, according to a study on broadband usage.
The Communications Outlook 2007 is a report compiled by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The report covers areas such as broadband usage and adoption in over 30 member countries.
According to the OECD study, Japan and Korea lead the way in maximum broadband speed, both having services of up to 100Mbps.
The United Kingdom was ranked sixteenth, with maximum speeds under 20Mbps.
The lowest maximum speeds were found in Australia and the Slovak Republic, with just over 10Mbps.
The lowest monthly subscription charge was found in Sweden at US$10.79 per month.
In terms of price per 1Mbps, the study found Japan to be the cheapest.
The figures are from October 2006, when 178 million people in the OECD countries were estimated to be broadband subscribers.
