Default Whats up with all the school killings?

Why does this seem to be a US thing? (Maybe it's not but I don't see many reports of it happening elsewhere) What is up with these kids? Soon people will be afraid to go to school!

This is meant to be a friendly discussion and I welcome your thoughts on the topic.

I was wondering the same thing. It seems every other week someone goes on a shooting rampage at a school. It's seriously a terrible thing.

What pisses me off is that the schools usually change their security policies AFTER the fu*king shooting. Why not take care of things "in the event of a possible shooting on campus..." ?!?!?!

one view could be universities accept basically anyone that meets the academic qualifications, no other checks are done. Secondly, while this incident involved a graduate student, I think many university settings are very unfriendly and cold to an 18 year old freshman. I don't think some of the environments are what they use to be, they seem to be very cold and the students are a #. Very difficult to get know students and what they are going through. JMO.
my condolences to the those that have been through this.

Honestly I don't think they know what to do? for example one idea would be to an university security office in every building, maybe armed/maybe not at least they could radio in, may serve as a deterrent. COST is number inhibiting factor noted, in every building from 8 am to 9 pm. COST vs SAFETY ..... I will stop the rant now.

It's hard to say, but no doubt that an environment that allows mentally unstable individuals ready access to guns of all shapes and sizes makes it possible. My daughter went to a preschool in the states that suffered from an insane gunman who had something against japanese kids. Shot a teacher in the head, who later recovered and became my real estate agent.

Shit ... when it gets that close .. wow!I just don't get it .. anyone have a semblance of an explanation? (Apart from the easy access to guns?) or do I have to go back to school and become a trained psychopath .. err .. I mean psychologist ...

Wow.

There has been increased media on this kind of thing in the states. When I was in college in '96 a gunman (woman, actually) opened fire on our campus and killed one. There was a heroic overtaking of her by an unarmed student. It could've been much worse, and didn't get a lot of press. It was pre-Columbine, which ate up thousands of hours of airwaves weekly.

Kind of a chicken-egg thing. Not sure if increased media attention could contribute more to the problem.

As for my alma mater, it seems it's been forgotten, as students have been in the news for dressing up as slaughtered VT students for Halloween.

When I was in high school there was a shooting where a girl I knew back in 4th grade got shot in the stomach. She survived, but another guy that I "casually" knew was paralyzed for life.

The guy they were intending on shooting got away.

Seriously... this stuff is scary.

Is this the outcome of people sending all their time watching reality shows on TV that aren't really reality shows?
