'financial naive' is fairly 'strong language' and if not invested .. well what to do?
BTW .. In the main .. gold I do actually own was made into coins many, many years ago and holds substantially more value as a coin than the gold content. Gold mines in general ... yes .. I know they use chemicals and the like but what to do? How to educate them? go back to 'panning' It's all about getting it out of the ground and onto the market in the fastest time possible. Ever buy a piece of gold? In any form? Ring? Earrings? Bracelet? Where there is perceived value by humans there will always be demand Quote:

MM Lee talked about China being relatively immune to the credit crunch. This is more of politics than fact, he has to kowtow to China after his son offended them 3 years ago.

Expect a downturn .. blah blah .. nobody will starve but we will not bail out those who have invested in the property market etc etc .. I cant find a link for it but it was in ST Heavy words from a heavy hitter ..

Yes, we have heard these arguments time and time again.
The sub-prime crisis is not just an American problem it is also a European problem, and to some extent an Asian problem because they lent us the money to get in this mess in the first place. Indeed, it really is there problem and not our problem because all we have to do is drop our interest rates and stimulate our economy, so they should be much more worried about it than us. In fact China is in real problem and the next US Boom is just around the corner. Who the fuck do they think they are kidding? One more interest rate drop and Bernanke is carry trade territory. The US economy will not boom until it find new investors, and dropping the interest rate is only likely to more capital investment flea the country for Asia. This is a risk reward scenario and Bernanke is trying to rig the World's financial market by offer lower return for much greater risk. But what actually manifested itself in the first place was a Credit Crisis because lender would not lend. It did not occur because American's would not borrow! China will cool a bit due to the American depression that is now undoubtedly coming. Yes, forget the R word nobody will mention. It is the D World we are talking about here. China, and to a lesser extent India have been struggling for several years to keep a lid on run away economies by restricting capital investment and running tight fiscal and monetary policies. Plenty of room for easing should they choose to do so, but it is actually likely that will tighten further by letting their currencies appreciate. The bottom line is bubbles burst. The US economy has been a bubble for several years now. It will burst. It is bursting. Get over it!
