Default The Economic Times launches in Hindi

Today, we launch the Hindi edition of The Economic Times in Delhi. At ET, we have always believed in empowering our readers. We have set trends, launched path-breaking pages, broken stories that have impacted the world and traversed paths that our rivals and sometimes even we thought were forbidden territory. It has always been our endeavour to reach every Indian doorstep —young and old, student and professional, banker and broker — through our wide network of reporters and countrywide editions.

You all, dear readers, have also responded with great enthusiasm to our pursuit of economic intelligence which, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told us when we presented him with the first copy of the ET in Hindi to roll off the press, has helped economic reform take root in India. “I must congratulate you for reaching out to a larger section of society... Hindi to desh ki dhadkan hai (Hindi is the heartbeat of India),” Manmohan Singh told ET editors over tea and biscuits at his Race Course Road residence.

In a globalised world, business is a multifaceted dynamic and ET, dear reader, has given you all its aspects in its vibrant variety of colours. ET Inc has walked lockstep with India Inc, straddling the media space. A year ago, we launched our Gujarati edition, whose astounding success surprised even us. The Gujarati blockbuster only emboldened us to think of a Hindi edition, whose scope and ambit would cover not only the heartland but also its many arteries in the days to come.

Default Re: The Economic Times launches in Hindi

Significant points:

1. Economic times is part of Times of India which is 160 years old (the oldest newspaper in India). What made such an old English newspaper go vernacular? Money, money!

2. Hindi is the heartbeat of India,” Manmohan Singh told ET editors over tea and biscuits at his Race Course Road residence.

3. The Gujarati blockbuster only emboldened us to think of a Hindi edition. They realized this too soon .
