BEIJING -- China's rapidly growing population of Internet users may have surpassed the U.S. last month to become the world's largest Internet user base.

According to official estimates by government research group China Internet Network Information Center, which are released every six months, the number of Internet users grew at an average of 6.1 million users per month in 2007 and would total about 225 million now. Now India has an online internet community of 40 million a steady rise from 5 million in 2000.

India is in the 5th position worldwide.

Indian online population is estimated to be 100 million by 2007-08.

India has the highest growth in internet users i have read 33% for 2007. Still a way to go to catch China though.
