Lightbulb idn.bz

As renew time was arriving and being a script dude, I had this idea for a while of putting together a script so that I could just look into a figure and decide whether or not to renew my domain.

I guess the time has come and I had the domain idn.bz doing nothing so I choose to spend 3 days working on a script them 3 days looking into a long list of what domains to renew.

The result is idn.bz: a complex algorithm to automatically evaluate and rate a term used on an IDN domain!

How to use it is really simple: just visit the domain and enter the term on the box, choose the language and press go! You can enter full domains like "crédito.com" or a multiple keyword term, like "energias renováveis". Punnycodes are also accepted.

---------------------------------------------------

The algorithm takes into account more than 10 factors and relates them between each other.

- The language
- The number of search results
- The Google Trends
- The availability of the term on the main domain extensions
- The translation to English
- The reverse translation back to the language (to find premium terms)
- The size of the domain
- The Adwords ads
- Some other minor factors
- The interdependencies between all the above
- And, finally, the secret source, which heights more than 25% it's where the real "subjective" rating of a term is made

And the script does much more like, detecting the Arabic "the" or considering the Spanish ñ!

---------------------------------------------------

In what concerns the language and the number of Google searches, these are the coefficients ratio I would like your opinion on:

What's the minimum # search results a premium term should give?

PT: 4.000.000
ES: 6.000.000
FR: 5.000.000
DE: 5.000.000
RU: 6.000.000
JP: 8.000.000
CN: 5.000.000
AR: 2.000.000
KR: 5.000.000
HE: 1.000.000

What's the language factor?
(1 to 10; 10 is best)

PT: 6
ES: 8
FR: 7
DE: 10
RU: 7
JP: 10
CN: 9
AR: 8
KR: 9
HE: 5
---------------------------------------------------

Algorithm current issues:

- Not accurate for Geo domains: will never work... anyone has a list of all world cities and countries, including population?!
- Not accurate for latin plurals: working on it...
- Not accurate for Russian/Greek capital letters: SOLVED !
- Not working on Firefox !

Work in progress:

- Top ten list
- Widget

Algorithm depends 57% (exactly) on Google and it will get better as Google translation, trends and search results improve.

---------------------------------------------------
Want to see some examples of near perfect terms?

お金 (Money - Japanese) Score: 99.76 (highest score I could get)
سفر (travel - Arabic) Score: 97.82

How about some examples of rubbish terms?
Remember those ascii look-alike "musìc"?! lol

This is great! Nice to have in the 'tool box' instead of having several tabs open to do the same job.

Great tool! Big potential.
I tried a few of my domains. The one with the highest score got 94.8 (a .cn name), which is indeed what I consider the best in my portfolio. The best score in my .com names is 75.7. That domain is not the one I consider the best actually. The one I consider the best only has a score of 60.8. Maybe I am wrong. I also tried a few dropping domains and their scores are poor.
Overall, it is pretty good!

Thanks a *LOT* Jamez! That's what I need! Great review. If you want PM that 60.8 domain, so that I can check it out.

The algorithm is still in beta test mode and I am thankfull for all the inputs members suggest. I will fine tune it the best way possible.

Most of the times the wrong figures are due to Google inacurrature translations and stuff, and thus, it will get better even if the algorithm stays the same.

When I check a 'Chinese', the system responds:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/.intie/idnuser/idn.bz/parse.php on line 352
