So what is going down here?

Are you guys:

a) Not Interested?
b) Unable to understand this?
c) Unable to read PDF files?

There has been little coming out of ICANN this last couple of months, but this shows that there is a lot going on behind the scenes and that IDN are about to explode onto the scene in Paris next month. This document shows that teh staff briefings and training have commenced.

Most significant of all is:

"Global communications plan developed to
accompany launch and evaluation stages"

This would explain the current "Radio Silence".

It would seem that ICANN are about to go global on the communications front rather than just leaking stuff into the local press at MARINA DEL REY. It is clear this going to be blasting out of megaphones across Europe and Asia. Paris is undoubtedly going to the launch pad for a massive International Press compaign. That means traffic and that means buyers.

Of course if none of you are actually interested in any of this stuff just go back sleep, or even better go back to the information coma that is IDNChannel.

Seems to me to be just another paper on another paper on yet another paper .. Words like 'Planning', 'Vision', 'Evaluation', 'Recommendation', 'Discussion' etc are dominant throughout the document .. and so it goes on ... and on and on

Be nice to see some sort of progress in Paris .. any sort of progress will do!

I just don't know how you can say that. This is not a policy discussion document. This an implementation workshop briefing.

From what I can see it is absolutely 100% certain that the New gTLD Policy will get board approval in Paris.

It is 100% certain that the Application process for New gTLD including IDN will be implemented shortly after.

It is 98% certain what the procedures will be for approving New gTLD applicatons.

It is 98% certain that ccTLDs will be approved for Fast Tracking. Although it is not certain who will get what.

It is absolutely clear that ICANN have set aside budgets for Global Publicity and are intent on letting the presses roll.

Furthermore, after an initial glitch, I am now very confident that we have some IDN in Moniker's Paris auction.

From where I am sitting it like a lot guys sitting around at 5 in the morning discussing whether the Sun will ever come up again, as it has been down for nearly ten hours.

It even seems that a lot of the ASCII crowd are waking up. It just seems to be the Stalworts from IDNFs that have forgotten what this is all about.

ICANN has to make a big push now. There is rumbling from all shores.

There is pressure to maintain stability etc.....

Hopefully they are ironing out the IDN.IDN kinks....

Yes the ascii crowd is showing more than a little interest....

Hope your names are confirmed, I'm still waiting to hear from them re: Paris Auctions...

If they did not send you back the documentation to fill in, it is likely that your submission got spammed out.

If you have submitted the documentation, then you are awaiting the out come of the Committee.

There are no stability issues. This is and always has been bullshit and ICANN know that. They have proved it. What they needed was buy loads of time for all the Policy development which they have now taken to the far end of a fart. If they don't give the Green light in Paris, IDN is a dead duck, and if it goes down at this stage of the game so probably is ICANN.

What you will see is real Balkanisation, not the sort of I can't read foreign language bollocks that the ASCII crowd twitter on about. You will see completely independent internet emerge in China and Russia and probably elsewhere as well. WWW will be dead!

They promised to fast track the ccTLDs. The gTLDs cannot be much farther behind. ICANN wouldn't want to lose traction versus the ccTLDs.

They are fast tracking IDN.ccTLD because otherwise they would have all got left behind. There is no clear evidence that ccTLDs will be out any earlier than gTLDs apart from IDN version of dot CN which only needs inserting in the Root to be fully functional.
