Default TLDs - Who gets what and how!

http://public.icann.org/files/NewgTL...tz_Dubai08.pdf

"Must not Cause String Confusion"

To me that says if looks or feels like a dot Com, then it has got to be a dot Com.

one more pdf is there for Arabic IDN investors to look at.

It is on :
http://public.icann.org/dubaiagenda

Writing Domain Names in different Arabic script based languages - Language vs. Script

This is from

Director, SaudiNIC, Abdulaziz Al Zoman

For me this is a very clear description of several issues:
the need for languages using Arabic script to be tied to one CCTLD.
the use of 'invisible space ' unicode characters being very difficult to implement

It is 60 pages but:

page 8 explains Tashkeel (Diacritics) well.
Page 9 explains Tatweel ( long horizontal line use )
page 10 explains Arabic character folding

and Page 12 is a pitch for 'the invisible space' character , but
basic recognition that the hypen or dash should be used.

page 13 grid shows that the Saudi NIC recognizes that the dash or hypen is recommended for multiple word domains.

Steve

That's it, what can they use if they can't use the transliteration for .com, and .net?

Arabic speakers?

I did an analysis on why .idn will not supersede .ascii in China -
http://www.idnforums.com/forums/1770...tml#post112568

Everything is falling perfecting within our expectations. If .idn can't supersede .ascii, then we're left with .asciis, and within .asciis, Dot Com rules number one in the Middle east and Asia.

Depending on how the trend progresses, i might be restrategizing and reconsidering my .ctld hedging plans.
